No Boss, One “Mental Health Day” Per Year Won’t Cut It
It’s time for employers to provide more sustainable solutions
Public life in Germany is once again on the brink of chaos as this country is running smash into an unprecedented fourth wave of this never-ending pandemic. No one saw this coming. Well, except for absolutely every single virologist in this country and every other sane person, of course.
These record infection numbers leave us with more social distancing, another looming lockdown, and… drum roll please… work from home! I sound like a broken record here. It’s not like we haven’t been here before — three times already — but who could have possibly known that this would happen a fourth time, potentially even more deadly and devastating than ever before? See above. You get my point.
Back to the (home) office
In response, my employer has once again mandated work from home for all staff. Exceptions will be made for business-critical matters only, which means that our janitor might perhaps be allowed to come in (because remotely fixing broken light bulbs is challenging) but no one else.
For now, WFH will be mandatory until March 2022. That leaves me with at least another four months of working from my dinner table. Don’t get me wrong — I’m…
